Work Transformed

Tremendous forces are reshaping work as we know it. Work is most certainly no longer a place but something we do.

The Citrix Technology Office launched the 2020 Technology Landscape at Synergy 2015. A key topic in this year's edition is “Work Transformed” which provides a glimpse into the changes occurring in our workplaces in the coming five years.

Tremendous forces are reshaping work as we know it. Work is most certainly no longer a place, rather something we do. For employees, we see more meaningful jobs, coping with “infotoxication,” freelancing, remote/flex work, productivity improvement, and automation. For employers, this includes accelerating the speed of innovation, better use of facilities, and major IT shifts (cloud, SaaS, BYO).

These forces are driving a workplace flip, where employees co-locate 20 percent of the time and work elsewhere 80 percent of the time. This may be at customer sites, partner sites, co-working spaces, or home, often allowing them to reclaim hours of travel time each day. The office is becoming a reconfigurable activity-oriented workspace designed for collaboration. With workers losing large amounts of productive time because of unnecessary email, ineffective meetings, and constant interruptions people are becoming compelled to use mobile technology to reclaim downtime for work.
