Additional details can be found in the “Citrix XenDesktop Administrator’s Guide” (refer to Chapter 8) http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/19149-102-19637/XDAdminGuide.pdf Running Time: 7:52 Hello. My name is Frank Nicosia. And this is another episode of Citrix TV. Today I will be taking you through the steps in configuring USB support within a XenDesktop environment. At the end of this program, you will have a better understanding on how to enable USB support within the Citrix desktop Receiver and how to configure a Citrix policy to enable USB devices. Lastly, we will start the process of launching a virtual desktop to verify USB support was configured successfully. Let’s start by installing the desktop Receiver on my local desktop. Let’s click on Run. Here we will enable USB support. Let’s click on Yes and Install. Let’s click on Close. The installation does require reboot, so let’s click on Yes. Let’s install the virtual desktop agent on my virtual machine. Let’s click Next on the welcome screen. Let’s accept the license agreement and click Next. Next to configure Windows Firewall. This NewFarmName. Let’s verify the farm name is the correct farm name on the desktop delivery controller. NewFarmName is specified. Let’s click Next and Install. Let’s click on Finish. This does require reboot, so let’s click on Yes. Now that the virtual desktop agent has rebooted, let’s verify that USB service has been started. Here is the USB service. And it’s started. Now my desktop is up and running. I have attached a Simple USB hard drive to my local computer. Let’s launch XenCenter and verify XenDesktop is configured, and to enable USB support. Here is Desktop Delivery Controller. And on the right-hand side, you will notice the virtual desktop agent. The desktop is in an idle state. Let’s configure a Citrix policy to enable USB support. To do so, we will need to launch the Citrix Presentation Server console. We will need to specify Start, Programs, Citrix, Management Consoles, Presentation Server Console. On the left-hand side, you will notice the policy. We will right click on Policies and specify Create Policy. New policy will be called USB. Let’s click OK. We will double click on USB and then select Client Devices, Resources, USB, and USB again. And let’s Enable and specify Allow mapping of client USB devices. Let’s click OK. Now we need to apply this policy to the group. I’m going to right click on USB and specify Apply this policy to…a virtual desktop group name. We’re going to specify Filter based on virtual desktop group name, and we’re going to click on Add. To verify the virtual desktop group, we’re going to open up the Citrix Access Management Console. And here’s the group name USBgroup. I’m going to click on the Citrix Presentation Server Console and type in USBgroup and click OK. And we will click OK once more. Let’s verify USB support has been configured successfully. Let’s minimize the XenCenter and launch Web Interface. Once I log on to Web Interface, the virtual desktop immediately launches. On the desktop on my screen, you will see a dialogue box called Citrix XenDesktop. Here is my Simple USB Drive that I have attached locally. Let’s click on and specify Connect. After specifying the Simple USB device, a Hardware Wizard will appear for Citrix Remote USB Device. Let’s click Next. Citrix Remote USB Device is installing. Let’s click Yes and Finish. Here’s my USB drive being configured. Let’s look at Windows Explorer at this time. And here’s my Simple USB device. It appears as a remote storage device instead of a mapped ICA client drive. On the top of the window, you’ll see a new icon called USB Devices. Let’s click on the icon. As you’ll notice, my Simple USB drive appears, and also USB Preference. Let’s click on USB Preferences. Here you can configure some options for USB. You can specify connect all available USB devices, display a list of available USB devices and let you choose, or do nothing. You could also immediately attach a USB device while you’re in a session. Let’s click OK. This concludes our presentation to configure USB support on a XenDesktop environment.
