Transcript : Adam Palson: Woof, Kristin. Kristin Taylor: Adam. Adam Palson: Today was a long one. I don’t know about you. Kristin Taylor: You know, it was long. But it was also exhilarating. I am just so pumped out of everything that came out of Day 1 today. Adam Palson: Yeah. Can you believe how many partners, customers, vendors are here today at Synergy? Kristin Taylor: Well, you know, it’s all about the end user. And we had 4,600 end users sitting in our audience listening to the keynote. Adam Palson: Yep. Kristin Taylor: What do you think was the most exciting part? Adam Palson: Well, I think I speak for everyone in attendance when I say the public announcement of XenClient, the first true Type 1 hypervisor, is finally made available to the public as a free download online. Kristin Taylor: Absolutely. Adam Palson: Let’s go ahead and get a couple more details around that from Mark’s keynote today. Mark Templeton: The first form that we’re going to ship XenClient is called the XenClient Express Test Kit. It includes the XenClient bare metal hypervisor. It’s the release candidate; it’s not the final ship. And it also includes Receiver and Synchronizer so that you can connect to XenDesktop and do all the things that Peter showed and more. And we’re being helped today by HP and Dell. In fact, we have eight laptops—four from HP, four from Dell—that are ready for XenClient. And if you look under your seats, you’ll find that “to go” box. After the keynote, please come up to the stage, and we’ll set you up with your…your new HP and Dell vPro-based laptops that will fully run XenClient and get you started. Kristin Taylor: You’re eating the props. Adam Palson: Yeah. I am. Kristin Taylor: All right. Well, let’s go ahead and read the fortune. What does it say? Adam Palson: The fortune says, “You will be blessed with a co-anchor who will out-stage you for the rest of the event.” Kristin Taylor: Oh, wait, that’s me. Adam Palson: It is you. Kristin Taylor: Okay. Adam Palson: But that’s actually not what it says at all. Thank goodness. Kristin Taylor: Let’s…what does it say? Adam Palson: It says, “Download XenClient for free.” I think that’s awesome. It’s the fortune of everyone in attendance. So go online, download XenClient, throw a couple VMs on your laptop, and really impress your friends. Kristin Taylor: You know what? It’s not only the fortune of everyone, it’s the future of everyone. And I have to tell you, I am so excited about XenClient because I am a full-time work shifter. Adam Palson: Really. Kristin Taylor: Yes. Adam Palson: What, exactly, is work shifting? Kristin Taylor: Don’t you know? Adam Palson: Actually, I do. It was a test. It is getting people to go to the most optimal place to work. So getting that desktop out of the house, out of the office. Getting people where they feel most comfortable and getting work done. So, Kristin, that leads to my next question. Where is the craziest place you have work shifted? Kristin Taylor: All right. This is going to sound like a fish tale. Adam Palson: Keep it clean. Kristin Taylor: But it was…it was Timbuktu, Africa. Adam Palson: Timbuktu, Africa. Kristin Taylor: Mali, actually. Adam Palson: I didn’t even know Timbuktu was in Africa. Kristin Taylor: Yeah. My little sister was in the Peace Corps. I went to visit her. I had to connect in an Internet café over just dial-up bandwidth. No problem. Adam Palson: Well, I don’t know about you, but did you catch the keynote today? Mark T. had some awesome things about work shifting, including a pretty sweet demo. Kristin Taylor: Yeah. He did. Let’s take a look. Mark Templeton: Apps on demand, we think, is a limitless…has limitless possibilities. And our strategy has always been any app, over any network connection, to any device. Now there’s a new mobile device I want to introduce here to you today. Hey, Glenn, how are you doing? Glenn Benjamin: Terrific, Mark. How are you guys up there? Mark Templeton: Going great. Glenn Benjamin: Fabulous. So one of the things that I did to be productive during my trip is I use Citrix Receiver here. It’s built into the dashboard, and I’ll show it to you in a second. It is the same Citrix Receiver that you all are using today with all your remote devices. So what I think that would make the most sense, instead of taking you through a boring Excel spreadsheet, let me show you a very cool floor plan if that works for you. On top of all this, the other piece that we do…we use to stay productive, is we would use one of these Sprint 4G Overdrive Hotspots. This will allow five of my coworkers right here in the area to share…to share this same connection and perform the same functions on their mobile devices, some of which you’ve been describing this morning, all using Citrix Receiver, and all, ultimately, to remain productive with what they’re doing. Kristin Taylor: So, remember when I was in the Expo hall, and you walked by, and I honked the horn? I was in the truck? Adam Palson: Yeah. I…I recall that. Kristin Taylor: And you spilled water all over yourself, because I scared you? Adam Palson: Not only that, I spit it on some poor soul that was walking by, too. Kristin Taylor: Well, now you know what was in the truck. Adam Palson: Awesome demo. Kristin Taylor: Yeah. Adam Palson: And my favorite part of the Expo Hall is all the vendors that are there. I mean, we had so many this year displaying some of their latest technologies. We actually had Brian Madden and Gabe Knuth stop by the set today to tell us what they were impressed by. So let’s go ahead and take a look at that. Brian Madden: Well, Gabe, who knew that we would be excited about security. Gabe Knuth: And anti-virus. Brian Madden: Yeah. I mean specifically McAfee. So McAfee, historically, in virtual desktop environments, you’ve run your client security software in every single guest VM. Gabe Knuth: Right. Brian Madden: And what they announced today at Synergy was they have a dedicated sub-virtual appliance. All your VMs run a thin little agent instead of the full client security suite in there. Much better performance, much higher density for client security inside VMs. Gabe Knuth: Yeah. I stopped by it. I saw it. You can actually see a reduction in memory usage. It was pretty neat. While we’re talking about anti-virus, though, we also talked…saw Sophos. And, during the keynote, we saw it. And I went and talked to them, as well. They actually have a method to deliver anti-virus to the client through the Citrix Receiver that you can manage through Merchandising Server. Brian Madden: And that’s part of this open architecture that Citrix talks about, where the client Receiver, the Citrix Receiver is extensible. Gabe Knuth: Right. Brian Madden: Anyone can come in and plug in whatever they want to it. Or whatever they…they are able to build. And so, as you say, it delivers, not—or I should say, not just delivers the client security anti-virus to it, but it can link it to the functionality of other components. Gabe Knuth: Right. Brian Madden: So an endpoint scan has to work, and you don’t connect to your backend Citrix environment until Sophos says, yes, thumbs up, this thing is secure. Gabe Knuth: Exactly. And so, we have to wrap up real quick. We saw Wyse. Brian Madden: I…I love, you know, Xenith, I don’t know about the name. But it’s…it’s Wyse’s zero client. Gabe Knuth: X…X-e-n-i-t-h. That explains it right there. Brian Madden: That’s right. Yeah. But I love…I love it. It’s a zero client for HDX. It’s a full HDX client. I mean, Microsoft is coming out with zero clients for RemoteFX. Teradici and VMware have zero PC over IP clients. Gabe Knuth: Right. Brian Madden: It’s cool to see that there now is a zero client infrastructure for Citrix HDX. Gabe Knuth: Yep. Kristin Taylor: So, you know, as much as I was really, really excited about Day 1… Adam Palson: Yeah. Kristin Taylor: …I am geeking out over tomorrow. Adam Palson: Well, what’s tomorrow? Kristin Taylor: It’s all on data center and cloud. Adam Palson: You mean data center. Kristin Taylor: Data center. Adam Palson: Yeah. If you have no idea what you’re talking about, it’s data center. Anyway. So what? That’s your soft spot is data center is the cloud? Kristin Taylor: Yeah. You know what, we’re going to take a deeper look at XenServer 5.6. We have some really exciting NetScaler announcements that are going to make things really, really simple for our customers. And, finally, my favorite, we’re going to look how we approach the cloud with our partners. And it’s just going to be a great day. Adam Palson: I’ll take your word on that. Well, make sure you tune in tomorrow to catch all the…all the latest announcements coming straight out of San Francisco at Synergy 2010. Kristin Taylor: Thanks for joining us. Good night.
