Citrix IT Self Service
Citrix Dazzle and new versions of Citrix Receiver extends self-service virtual desktops to millions of endpoint devices, including PCs, Macs, laptops, netbooks and smartphones. Citrix Dazzle is the first self-service “storefront” for enterprise applications and gives corporate employees 24x7 self-service access to a broad array of applications, desktops and content, allowing them to choose exactly what they need, when they need it. Citrix Receiver is a lightweight software client that makes accessing virtual desktops and applications on any device as easy as turning on your TV.

Transcript : My name is Orestes Melgarejo, and I’m head of Product Management for the Citrix XenApp Product Group. Today I’d like to talk to you about how Citrix is evolving the way in which IT interacts with users of applications and desktops. At Citrix, we have been talking for quite some time about the Bring Your Own Computer model and how it can free IT to deliver desktops and applications as a service and empower users to use the device her or she is most comfortable with. For IT, we’re evolving from a world where we manage and lock down desktops to a place where users buy their own preferred device, along with a hardware service plan from the vendor, and we provide a service where users can get the resources they need delivered to their device. We get out of the business of managing physical desktops and into one of delivering computing services. That is why we like this metaphor so much. Satellite TV providers don’t care what you have on the user end. They just make sure they provide an excellent, optimized, and scalable high definition service on the head end, along with a HD receiver that is compatible with any TV you care to connect at the user end. And that’s exactly what we’re building with Citrix Receiver. Receiver enables any user to connect any device to the IT services that they need in order to get their job done. This enables the BYOC model, but will also work just as nicely with traditional corporate PCs. We’re building Receivers for just about every platform that users have for connecting to Citrix delivered services, including Windows, Macs, Linux, and just about every Smartphone out there, including iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android, and a whole bunch of others. One very special plugin to Receiver is something we call Dazzle. Dazzle makes it extremely easy for users to subscribe to the apps that they really care about. We have all seen the case where a user has a hundred or even several hundred published applications, but they really only need about a dozen or so on a daily basis. Dazzle aims to solve that problem by providing an enterprise apps store and allowing users to pick the apps they truly need and ignore the rest. It enables users to add applications and integrate them into the local desktop environment, placing icons anywhere they are comfortable with. For IT, it takes the burden and guesswork out of trying to decide what is the optimal application set for a user or group and lets the user have the fun of picking their apps in a familiar subscription interface.
