Transcript : 1014 – How To: Convert a Physical machine to a Virtual Machine Description: Citrix® XenConvert™ converts a server or desktop workload from a physical machine to a XenServer virtual machine. For additional information, please review XenConvert Administrator guide: http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/20644-102-332133/XenConvertGuide.pdf Running Time: 2:56 Hello. My name is Frank Nicosia, and this is another episode of Citrix TX. Today, I will be taking you through a process of converting a physical server into a virtual machine, and then importing the image into XenServer using XenConvert. Let’s first launch XenCenter to verify the IP address of the XenServer. On the General tab, you’ll see Management Interfaces. And here we have the IP address of the XenServer. Let’s make a copy. Now let’s launch XenConvert. I click in Start, Programs, Citrix, XenConvert 2.0. In the welcome screen in the From, there are some options. For this demo, we’re going to click on This Machine. In the To, there’s also additional options. For this demo, we’re going to specify XenServer. Let’s click Next. We’re only going to make a copy of the C: drive. Let’s click Next. In the Hostname, I’m going to paste the IP address of the XenServer. Root is the User name. Decide a password. And in Workspace, we’re going to specify the D: drive. Here let’s create a new desktop, and click OK. The workspace is utilized to create the image, which then is forwarded to the XenServer. You have to make sure the drive that you specify is larger than your initial drive, in this case the C: drive. Let’s click Next. Let’s rename the new image. I’m calling it CitrixVM. Let’s click Next. And let’s start. Depending on the size of the hard disk which you will be converting, the XenConvert process may take some time. For this demo, I’ve expedited the process. At the moment, I have successfully converted my desktop into a virtual machine. In the XenCenter console, we now have CitrixVM. Let’s start the virtual machine. This concludes our presentation to use XenConvert to convert a physical server into a virtual machine.
