Desktop Virtualisation Sales Doubling Every YearFast Return On Investment and Lower Costs Drive Enterprise-wide Desktop Virtualisation |
Berlin, Germany - Enterprise-wide desktop virtualisation sales are doubling every year, according to European IT VARs, integrators and converged resellers.
New research commissioned by Citrix and launched at Citrix Summit 2010, an annual event for Citrix solution partners, shows that Citrix solution providers are experiencing a compound annual growth rate of 99 per cent from 2008 to 2012.
European Citrix solutions providers reported 375 enterprise-wide desktop virtualisation deployments in 2008 rising to 1555 in 2010. Anticipated deployments in 2011 are 2801, reaching 5876 in 2012.
“These are enterprise-wide desktop virtualisation deployments, not just a department using VDI,” says Carsten Thomsen, VP, Channels, Sales Programs and Strategy, EMEA, Citrix. “As you’d imagine, enterprise-wide desktop virtualisation means using a selection of virtualisation technologies to support different types of workers in appropriate way. That consultancy is a crucial role that the solutions provider fulfils.”
According to European resellers, the demand for desktop virtualisation is being driven by the reduced total cost of ownership it delivers through centralised control of an enterprise’s entire estate of PCs. In particular, the main benefits end-user companies are looking for is faster desktop deployment, easier desktop migration and support for new working practices such as remote, home and mobile working.
Based on the enterprise-wide virtual desktop solutions Citrix solution providers have already deployed, overall costs savings are typically around 20 per cent, and are anticipated to rise to 35 per cent by 2014. That level of cost saving means that solutions providers are seeing the majority of desktop virtualisation implementations delivering a return on investment (ROI) in just 12-18 months.
At a time of economic uncertainty, desktop virtualisation is one of the few technologies that are exciting the market, largely due to the substantial efficiencies it brings to both the IT department and the organisation as a whole.
Citrix surveyed its European solutions providers as part of its commitment to its channel partners, to help create and share a view of virtualisation demand across the region. Over 20 per cent of Citrix solutions providers across Europe were surveyed, making it the most comprehensive research into the European Citrix channel.
