HM Revenue & Customs Delivers New Online Tax Advice Programme Using Citrix GoToWebinarLive and pre-recorded webinars provide fast and effective tax advice to small businesses and the self-employed |
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has implemented Citrix GoToWebinar the leading webinar solution designed for easy, do-it-yourself, cost-effective webinars to support the introduction of a new series of presentations designed to provide help on tax to small businesses and the self-employed. The webinar initiative is an integral part of a broader series of online programmes in which HMRC is looking to improve its service to business, by adopting new channels of communication. How It Works for HMRCHMRC offers two types of webinar, each lasting up to a maximum of 30 minutes. Designed for start-ups and established businesses, live webinars on set dates allow for a further 30 minutes of Q&As. These webinars cover a broad range of generic and more specialised tax issues, from Self-Assessment online, how VAT works and first steps as an employer to sector-specific topics such as The Construction Industry Scheme. Pre-recorded webinars are also accessible for viewing at any time. HMRC is currently running an average four webinars each day. The inclusion of polls throughout enables HMRC to test levels of understanding and respond appropriately. Subsequent Q&As also maximise the opportunity for interaction in ensuring participants get the most from each session. Andrew Millard, senior director of marketing EMEA, for the Online Service division at Citrix, explains, “It is important to engage customers in ways which best suit today’s fast paced businesses. Webinars offer a flexible and cost-efficient alternative to face-to-face presentations, by providing information in a concise format at time which fit with their busy schedules and different ways of learning.” Early reaction by business to the new webinar series has been very positive, as participants expressed “delight that HMRC is embracing the digital age”, in providing webinars “that are both a brilliant idea and a hugely informative communications tool”. Creating a better customer engagementOnce the webinar series is established, HMRC plans to measure more closely how the new learning tools are driving greater accuracy by reducing mistakes. Other webinar initiatives under consideration include better customer engagement through improved dialogue and supporting ‘just in time’ learning by providing information at the time of the annual cycle when the business needs it. “The HMRC initiative is an ideal example of how GoToWebinar can help organisations enhance communications and information exchange, as a powerful way of improving engagement and the customer experience,” believes Millard.
