New Citrix “Safe Zone” Technology Enables Transparent Data Security for the Virtual Workforce |
SAN FRANCISCO - Today at Citrix Synergy™ 2010, the conference where virtualization, networking and cloud computing meet, Citrix Systems (NASDAQ: CTXS) unveiled a new “Safe Zone” technology that makes it easier for companies to securely embrace virtual computing, even for external contractors and users working on home PCs or employee-owned laptops. The new technology automatically encrypts all data created by corporate applications delivered to users via Citrix XenApp™ or Microsoft App-V, storing them transparently in dedicated “safe zone” directories. This ensures sensitive corporate data stored on non-corporate devices is not only protected, but that it can also be wiped remotely at the end of a contract, or in the event that a user’s laptop is lost or stolen.
As workforce dynamics evolve, companies around the world are increasingly relying on contractors and temporary workers as a key part of their virtual workforce. Many companies are also extending the ability of employees to work outside the office using non corporate-owned devices such as home PCs, or implementing “Bring Your Own Computer” (BYOC) programs that allow employees to purchase any laptop they choose. While these flexible working programs are increasingly popular, they can make it challenging for companies to ensure corporate data is secure at all times, even when it is stored on devices not owned by IT.
The new Citrix “Safe Zone” technology addresses this challenge by adding an encrypted data plug-in to the Citrix Receiver™ client software. As long as users have this plug-in, any data created by corporate applications or saved in a secure safe zone directory is automatically encrypted, regardless of where the users are located or what device they are using. By ensuring data protection for contractors, teleworkers and corporate BYOC users, companies can extend security policies to all workers in today’s increasingly virtual workforce.
