Complete failures are not
the only kinds of application problems that impact business. Slow
or poorly performing applications can actually be worse because they
are harder to detect. EMAX uses resource allocation policies to detect
these conditions and address them before they become serious problems.
Using a powerful policy engine that can monitor a wide variety of
machine, OS, network, and application parameters, EMAX can dynamically
determine when an application is misbehaving and take appropriate
action, including the following:
- Restarting the application
- Moving the application to a more appropriate resource on XenServer
- Reprioritizing or halting less critical applications
- Notifying administrators
- Allocating more hardware resource (RAM, CPU, Disk, etc.)
Furthermore, EMAX performs these processes intelligently. Rather than
simply triggering a policy based on an application crossing a simple
threshold, EMAX factors time into its policy considerations, preventing
momentary spikes in resource utilization from unnecessarily triggering
responses.
