Event Agenda Expand all sections

8:00 AM - 9:45 AM | Troubleshooting XenApp with the Citrix Diagnostic Toolkit

Presenter: Frank Marzullo

Every IT professional knows that “problems happen.” When problems occur, support engineers need data points, debug tracing and context information to help determine root causes. Preparation and organization of commonly used tools has always been a time-consuming challenge, especially during outages. The Citrix Diagnostics Toolkit (CDT) addresses these challenges by rapidly deploying a suite of tools and options in an easy-to-use structured format.

What you will learn

  • What is the Citrix Diagnostics Toolkit?
  • How and when to use the CDT
  • How the CDT helps Citrix deliver better technical support

9:00 AM - 9:45 AM | Troubleshooting and debugging Citrix Receiver for iOS and Android

Presenter: Christian Suarez

As the mobile market expands, so does the number of users with a variety of mobile devices trying to connect to your Citrix resources. Citrix administrators have been frustrated with the lack of client-side logging on some mobile platforms. The latest Citrix Receiver [client?] for Apple iOS contains a new advanced log feature. Learn how to use these logs as well as network traces and Citrix diagnostic facility (CDF) traces to help troubleshoot problems connecting with iOS and Android devices.

What you will learn

  • Common network and connection troubleshooting techniques
  • How to capture and debug advanced logs from Citrix Receiver for iOS
  • How to capture and debug logs from Citrix Receiver for Android

10:00 AM - 10:45 AM | Troubleshooting a XenDesktop environment using the PowerShell SDK

Presenter: Kenny Baldwin

The Citrix XenDesktop PowerShell SDK is the foundation for all interactions with a XenDesktop database and is the same SDK used by Desktop Studio. This deep dive session will include a behind-the-scenes look at several tools used by Citrix Technical Support that utilize the PowerShell SDK. It will give you a better understanding of ways to leverage the SDK to more effectively configure, monitor and troubleshoot issues in a XenDesktop environment.

What you will learn

  • About the PowerShell SDK and the role it plays in a XenDesktop environment
  • Common configuration cmdlets and scripts used by Citrix Technical Support
  • Advanced scripting techniques used to troubleshoot complex issues

11:00 AM - 11:45 AM | Deploying global server load balancing using persistent methods

Presenter: Sam Cohoon

Global Server Load Balancing {GSLB} is most commonly used to deploy critical applications to an active/backup or active/active datacenter site. Depending on the method used, GSLB can direct traffic to a specific site based on several different proximity algorithms. We will describe the basic setups and how to ensure users connect to the optimal site. We will also demonstrate how to troubleshoot sessions that are not remaining persistent to a site.

What you will learn

  • General deployment scenarios for GSLB
  • Methods of ensuring users have persistent connections
  • How to troubleshoot problems when users are “hopping” sites

1:30 PM – 2:15 PM | Configuring and troubleshooting XenDesktop sites

Presenter: Ramon Scott

Citrix XenDesktop introduced a number of new concepts and processes for desktop administrators. The goal of this session is to demystify these concepts and provide a tactical approach to deployment and troubleshooting of a XenDesktop environment. In this session we will demonstrate the core configuration that is required, and also cover proven troubleshooting approaches to the top three problems we see in customer deployments.

What you will learn

  • The high-level XenDesktop database and services architecture
  • Configuring a typical site and common pitfalls
  • Troubleshooting tips for machine creation with pooled personal vDisks

2:30 PM – 3:15 PM | Troubleshooting provisioning services target boot processes

Presenter: Peter Svoboda

Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) functionality targets network client machines that boot and connect to provisioning services servers under the guidelines specified in the PXE 2.1 specification. This in-depth technical session will provide a step-by-step detailed overview of the target boot process used by provisioning services versions 5.6.x and 6.x.

What you will learn

  • Components and architecture of the PVS boot process
  • Troubleshooting PVS boot issues
  • Load balancing and failover technology

3:30 PM – 4:15 PM | Disaster recovery best practices for XenServer

Presenter: Nick Kieffer

Citrix XenServer 6 introduces an integrated disaster recovery (DR) feature that allows you to recover virtual machines (VMs) from a catastrophic failure that disables your production pool. When your primary (production) site goes down, how do you get your VMs back up and online at your secondary (DR) site? Do you have a secondary site? If not, what can you do in a similar situation? In this session we will provide answers to these questions.

What you will learn

  • How to utilize the DR wizard in XenServer to recover from a disaster
  • How to recover without using the integrated DR wizard
  • Common practices for a successful recovery

4:30 PM – 5:15 PM | Optimizing and troubleshooting NetScaler performance

Presenter: Michael Tao

Customers frequently ask Citrix Technical Support, “How do I get the best performance out of NetScaler?” and “Why does the website take longer to load via Netscaler versus going direct?” In this session we will review best practices for common deployments and how to troubleshoot typical performance issues.

What you will learn

  • Best practices for modes and features
  • How to identify performance issues using the Wireshark tool and nstrace utility
  • Which logs and counters are best for debugging performance issues
