Stage Management

How stage management works

The stage management feature in Essentials for XenServer simplifies and streamlines the process of integrating, testing, and delivering applications on-demand into business critical production environments. Stage management enables administrators to easily define, customize and automate the stages of the release process for virtualized workloads making certain proper steps are taken to ensure applications perform as expected in production environments. Stage management accelerates and improves application delivery in virtual environments by:

  • Reducing the risks associated with releasing new or updated workload configurations into production environments

  • Driving efficiencies by managing and automating the integration testing and delivery process for virtualized application workloads

  • Improving consistency by  ensuring that all environments used throughout the release process are exact replicas of production systems

Stage management in Essentials for XenServer provides IT administrators with a single perspective from which to manage virtual application workloads through the various stages across the integration, patch testing and release processes.  Complex application configurations are managed as single entity and easily migrated, archived and audited from a centralized user interface.  The information displayed in the console enables administrators to:

  • Build and customize the workflow that defines the staging process for virtual application workloads

  • Promote and demote application configurations with a single mouse-click

  • Ensure process approvals are met  as configurations are migrated through the release process

  • Accurately replicate production systems to ensure integration and patch testing is performed on the correct system  configuration

  • Easily and quickly create and provision complex application configurations utilizing customized templates

  • Clone and run configurations side-by-side using fenced networking capability
