Bringing cloud scale to the enterprise with Citrix TriScale

Citrix announces the latest in application and service delivery innovation with NetScaler 10. This landmark release introduces TriScale technology along with dozens of other advanced features that enable traditional enterprise datacenters to transform to enterprise clouds.

TriScale enables a genuine revolution by scaling enterprise cloud networks with an unrivaled set of capabilities that smartly scale application and service delivery infrastructures, affordably and with no additional complexity. With Citrix TriScale technology, organizations of all types, sizes, and levels of cloud maturity can:

• Scale Up – Make the network elastic with 5x faster performance on-demand. Replace fixed-capacity appliances with NetScaler's flexible, software-based Pay-As-You-Grow licensing.
• Scale Out – Seamlessly expand capacity up to 32x with advanced clustering technology. Eliminate idle resources common with traditional HA deployments, and stop buying expensive chassis-based solutions that can only expand capacity no more than 4x.
• Scale In – Scale the number of applications and/or business units supported by consolidating up to 40 NetScaler app delivery policies into just one NetScaler SDX platform.

TriScale delivers the right architecture for the cloud era – replacing older chassis-based solutions so popular in earlier generation datacenters. It completely eliminates the need to purchase additional blades each time more capacity is required. Citrix TriScale provides the ultimate in flexible and easy-to-deploy capacity scaling. IT administrators can dramatically expand performance, whether locally or throughout public, private and hybrid clouds in multiple synergistic ways. TriScale uniquely provides the ability to dynamically "scale-out, "scale-up" and "scale-in" your network operations.

Dozens of NetScaler appliances may be clustered together to linearly "scale-out" a large unified group with a single system image. In this scenario all NetScaler appliances work in concert to deliver any application or service. At the same time each clustered appliance may be "scaled-up" by five times via either "Pay-As-You-Grow" or Burst Pack license upgrades. Further, services may be "scaled-in" through consolidating up to forty NetScaler instances on each NetScaler SDX appliance. TriScale is available for NetScaler every MPX, SDX and VPX appliance.

Action Analytics

NetScaler 10 provides integrated, real-time monitoring of application and client traffic, along with the capability to feed back critical application delivery information to automatically optimize ADC and load balancing policies. NetScaler Action Analytic collects detailed information on administrator-selected application traffic flows and generates multi-dimensional views of what is happening in real-time. These detailed, real-time statistics can be fed back into the NetScaler AppExpert Policy Engine to automatically optimize the NetScaler load balancing and app delivery policy for the current environment. It can also be used to adaptively moderate individual bandwidth consumption when the application environment is under unusually heavy load, or automatically cache application content that is greatest demand at any point in time. This ability to dynamically change policy in real-time to deliver the highest optimization for your exact requirements is what sets the new NetScaler Action Analytics apart.

Database Server load balancing advances

DataStream is a SQL-aware load balancing and traffic management solution for scaling Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL Server environments. The new NetScaler release extends the power and capabilities of DataStream with token-based load balancing of SQL queries for more flexible scaling strategies, and with advanced caching of SQL responses to improve database server efficiency and increase application responsiveness. NetScaler 10 also adds full AppFlow support for DataStream traffic so that performance monitoring and business intelligence tools now have visibility deep into the application stack for richer monitoring, tracking and troubleshooting of both web and data based traffic.
