How XenClient works

Embedded HD version of the Citrix Chromeless Video Player.

XenClient is a local virtual desktop solution that radically simplifies the management and security of laptops for customers who want to extend the benefits of desktop virtualization to mobile laptop users. The solution is comprised of two technologies – XenClient and the Synchronizer for XenClient.

Access virtual desktops anywhere, at any time

Citrix XenClient is a true Type-1 client hypervisor that runs on bare metal and provides high performance and security. XenClient lets users run multiple local virtual desktops simultaneously, side-by-side and in complete isolation. XenClient-powered laptop users can access their various virtual desktops anywhere, anytime—even while disconnected from the network.

Download centrally-managed virtual desktops

Citrix Synchronizer for XenClient enables laptops with XenClient to download centrally managed virtual desktops. Using Synchronizer, IT can centrally backup user data through a secure connection whenever the user connects to the Internet, define security policies for managed laptops, disable lost or stolen XenClient laptops and restore a user’s virtual desktop on any XenClient based laptop.

Citrix and Intel—Designing the optimal client virtualization solution

XenClient is designed to take full advantage of the hardware-assisted virtualization capabilities found in the Intel vPro technology platform. The combined solution provides essential hardware-enabled virtualization, security and isolation functionality and provides direct access to the full graphics capabilities of the device. With Intel vPro, XenClient gives businesses the security they need while making the most of available hardware resources to provide a high-definition user experience for multiple virtual machines on a single device.

Optimized for Intel vPro based systems, XenClient will also run on non-vPro enabled computers, including a wide range of volume, value and workstation-class enterprise systems that have integrated Intel graphics or AMD discrete graphics processors. Citrix has worked closely with a wide number of PC manufacturers to optimize XenClient for their laptops and desktops. View the complete set of supported systems here.
