How Branch Repeater works

Citrix Branch Repeater products include Branch Repeater appliances for branch offices, Repeater appliances for datacenters, Branch Repeater VPX software-based virtual appliances for the branch and the datacenter, and Repeater Plug-in for Citrix Receiver. A key component of Citrix HDX, the Branch Repeater product family completes the service-centric Citrix WAN optimization solution that accelerates, controls and optimizes all services from the datacenter to branch and mobile users, including XenDesktop, XenApp and multimedia. Powered by SmartAcceleration technology, Branch Repeater includes features such as service assessment, classification and reporting and traffic prioritization and control. A central licensing server and a single management console aid deployment and management.

Service optimization and acceleration for XenDesktop and XenApp

Unlike traditional WAN optimization solutions, the new advanced SmartAcceleration technology of Citrix Branch Repeater evolves network-centric WAN optimization infrastructure into a service-centric solution. Only Branch Repeater incorporates user-centric XenDesktop delivery powered by HDX technologies. With SmartAcceleration technology, network administrators can now accelerate, control and prioritize service traffic that traverses the WAN. User-centric XenDesktop delivery identifies and prioritizes HDX (ICA) connections to branches based on branch office locations, desktop groups and published applications. Branch Repeater provides local caching and de-duplication across multiple XenDesktop and XenApp user sessions and local staging of XenApp streamed applications. Working in conjunction with XenApp and XenDesktop, Branch Repeater also senses real-time network and traffic conditions and adaptively orchestrates optimal delivery to branch offices. Together, these capabilities deliver breakthrough service delivery and allow IT to support more users in each branch office without upgrading WAN bandwidth.
