Independent Research Firm States Citrix Application Firewall Is Best Suited Solution for Strong Web Attack Protection

Citrix Systems Recognized for Largest Installed Base of Customers with Best Combined Scores in Attack Detection and Protection

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. » 7/25/2006 » Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced that its Citrix Application Firewall received the highest scores for preventing Web-based attacks of any product evaluated in the “Forrester Wave™ Web Application Firewalls Q2 2006” report.  Citrix Application Firewall was also called out as providing the best user interface with easy-to-find features and automated learning capabilities that make configuration easy and intuitive.

The strong performance of Citrix’s application delivery solutions, products that enable companies to deliver all application types – client/server, desktop and Web – reflects that it offers some of the highest performance, lowest cost and best security features available on the market today. Delivering secure Web applications is particularly challenging because Internet vulnerabilities are generally easy to exploit(1), and attacks cannot be detected by traditional security products such as network firewalls and intrusion protection systems (IPS). In addition, Web applications provide direct access to highly valuable and private data like financial records, credit card numbers and customer identity information, making them ideal targets for hackers. These trends have led to a dramatic spike in Web application attacks according to the FBI, with 95 percent of enterprises reporting more than 10 serious web security incidents last year, up from just five percent the year before(2).

“As the early market leader with the largest installed base of the commercial products we evaluated, Citrix Systems scores highest in attack protection and boasts the best combined scores in attack detection and attack protection,” writes Michael Gavin, Senior Analyst, Forrester Research. “Citrix Systems’ user interface is also a standout as it is intuitively laid out and easy to use.”

Citrix first entered the Web application firewall market just over six months ago with the acquisition of Teros, the worldwide market share leader in this emerging space. Now renamed the Citrix Application Firewall, this award-winning product utilizes a positive security model that permits only legal application traffic, automatically blocking attacks that could compromise a Web application and result in serious data theft.  Citrix Application Firewall also cloaks internal application structures, offers advanced SSL support, and prevents entire classes of Web application attacks such as cross-site scripting, SQL injection, XML tampering, cookie poisoning, command injection and authentication bypass attacks.

The Citrix Application Firewall is available in two editions, targeted to meet the unique needs of companies of all sizes:

  • Citrix Application Firewall, Standard Edition. The only application firewall on the market specifically targeted to meet the needs of midsized companies and workgroups within large enterprises offers full protection against the most dangerous Web threats in an easy-to-deploy appliance that can be up-and-running in under 30 minutes. The Standard Edition requires virtually no ongoing maintenance and can be easily upgraded to the full Enterprise Edition if needed.
  • Citrix Application Firewall, Enterprise Edition. The award-winning flagship product adds granular policy control, advanced URL rewrite and protection against attacks that target specific user sessions. These additional capabilities make it ideal for Web applications that handle e-commerce and secure extranet applications such as online banking.
