“Thin client technology using Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server clearly gives National Semiconductor a competitive advantage for our Windows-based software solutions.”
Bob Neuberger, Thin Client Technology Manager, National Semiconductor
National Semiconductor Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and markets a wide array of semiconductor products. To carry out these operations, National Semiconductor employees ranging from executives and engineers to sales and marketing teams required rapid access to a broad range of proprietary and packaged business applications.
Unfortunately, many remote users did not have PCs with enough memory to run these applications locally, and National Semiconductor found itself spending nearly one million dollars a year on desktop upgrades and replacements.
National Semiconductor selected an application deployment solution from Citrix Systems to reduce its IT infrastructure costs. Citrix® MetaFrame® Presentation Server for Windows® delivers business-critical applications including SAP and Microsoft® Office to 6,400 employees in 13 geographically dispersed offices. Moreover, since the applications reside and process transactions from a centrally managed server farm, there is no need to upgrade individual desktop machines with additional memory.
Thousands of employees now use thin-client terminals to log on to the system from any location to access applications. As a result, the company has reduced its previous desktop infrastructure expenditures by more than 50 percent annually, while greatly streamlining desktop administration issues.
